OOP insp is good enough to get a plate in Alberta .. you then have the usual 45 days to get the fed. insp. done.

Yeah I have already used up some of the 45 I think, its been in the country for a while, not sure when the clock starts.

If I'm going to get an inspection, why get it done twice?

True, probably because some people have to do some mods to the car before they can pass the Canadian Inspection and want to drive it for 45 days while they figure that out

Blair has it mostly right.. the other reason is that the federal inspection requires form 2 which can take a couple of weeks after you have sent your payment and recall notice (which I had to wait for the title to get from Audi). . I think the 45 days starts from the day of import so yes the clock has already started running.

I went to Apollo, down the road from you... international ave!

yeah it starts the day it crosses the border. and you can easily get an extension, I know I didn't have my 'parts' in yet for my car so I called them up and told them I needed more time and she gave me an extra 30 days no prob.

Is Apollo the transmission place right off Barlow? If so, I would not ever take a car there. Hahaha I have seen some crazy stuff while walking past every day.

Well I believe I am in a different situation, my shipper made my payments on my behalf already I think, I owe them reimbursement. I have the recall notice. I'm not sure about form 2 yet. I wonder how many days its been in Canada now, probably about a week.

I will see tomorrow what i need to do. AFAIK there are no parts or changes to be made. The dealership that sold me the car should have already switched on DRL's for me, and the cluster supports both miles and km.

So I think I can just get the inspection then wait for the sticker certification thingy then i'm good?

Picked up the car this morning - does not disappoint. Sadly no driving time yet.

Getting OOP inspection done tomorrow morning, should be registered and driving it tomorrow night!

                        Re: New Ride At Last

Well I read that you actually may NEED the oop inspection on a used car depending on what state its from, otherwise the registrar may turn you away. So better safe than sorry.

Also, I thought I could get the Cdn Tire inspection BEFORE form 2, and then just register the car and file the inspection with form 2 later. But it seems I need Form 2 first (3-7 days) before I can even GO to Cdn Tire for the federal inspection.

Anyway, the interior is fantastic, the brown looks and feels totally natural and everything is really classy. I was questioning my decision to get full leather, but after today I would not buy another Cayman without that option. I would still maybe rather have black just because I would think about putting an aftermarket steering wheel on the car. The steering wheel is better than I expected but still not really what I want (leather with a sporty feel).

The car is LOW and I question whether it has stock springs.

                            Re: New Ride At Last

Picked up the car last night, was going to take it for inspection. Noticed that the dealer in the US 'neglected' to enable my DRL's. Sigh.

Dropped car off at SCFC Porche Service on 1st street. Its there until Friday. Due to long weekend, car won't get inspected and registered until maybe Monday, Tuesday.

SCFC guys were really nice to me, I showed up right before closing and they booked me last-minute.

Car drives fantastic but to be honest I'm not sure I didn't like the 2.7L engine better for the city. The CS is too fast, you can't really thrash it and still be doing sane city speeds during the day, with traffic and all that. Maybe I will get used to it. Acceleration is even more linear with the bigger engine and you can barely feel it.

Only other criticisms I have of the car so far are that the stereo is quite poor sounding, and the plastic/aluminum-look steering wheel continues to annoy.

Seats are great but I'm so scared to wrinkle the bolsters when I get in/out.
