Ending two years worth of spy photo, speculative renderings and teaser coverage, Ferrari has finally revealed first images and details of their 599 successor offically named F12 berlinetta.
Initially described as "the most powerful and high-performance Ferrari road car ever launched" the mid-front-engined F12 berlinetta features a 6.2-liter (6262cc) 65 degree naturally-aspirated V12 engine delivering 740 HP (544 kW / 730 bhp) which translates to a specific output of 118 HP/liter. Torque reaches a peak of 690 Nm (509 lb-ft), 80 percent of which is available at just 2,500 rpm and redline at 8,700 rpm.
The transmission is an F1 dual-clutch unit which has closer gear ratios developed specifically for this car's performance. The F12 berlinetta boasts a weight-to-power ratio of just 2.1 kg/HP. Fuel consumption has been reduced by 30 percent with CO2 emissions of just 350 g/km - the top of its high-performance segment.
For performance, the new F12 berlinetta accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 3.1 seconds and from 0 to 200 km/h (124 mph) in 8.5 seconds. It also completes a lap of the Fiorano circuit in 1'23", faster than any other Ferrari road car.
Featuring a new Rosso Berlinetta three-stage finish, the F12 berlinetta's body design comes from a collaboration between the Ferrari Styling Center and Pininfarina. The V12 coupe has sleek, aggressive lines while providing uncompromising aerodynamics. The cabin has been optimised around the driver for maximum ergonomics and all the major functions are within immediate reach. In the middle of the dashboard there are new carbon fiber and aluminum air vents inspired by the aeronautic field.
For the F12 berlinetta's construction, an all-new aluminum spaceframe chassis and bodyshell using 12 different kinds of alloys has been utilized allowing a 20 percent increase in structural rigidity while reducing weight to just 1525 kg (3362 lbs) - 70 kg (154 lbs) less than the previous V12 coupe. Weight distribution puts 54 percent over the rear axle. Additionally, the wheelbase has been shortened and the engine, dashboard and seats have been lowered in the chassis. The overall result is a very compact car with a lower center of gravity that is further back in the chassis.
Official debut takes place at the Geneva Motor Show on March 6.
