  • Fiat 500 US Market Version Revealed

Fiat has unveiled the 500 Sport for the U.S. market.

Designed to appeal to fashionable city dwellers, the Sport features modified fascias, a larger grille, revised side skirts, and unique 16-inch aluminum wheels. Other goodies include 'Performance Red' brake calipers, a sport suspension, a chrome exhaust tip, and shadow-line window trim.

Under the hood, power is provided by a 1.4-liter MultiAir engine. While the company declined to release U.S. specifications, the European version produces 101 hp (75 kW / 102 PS).

No word on pricing, but customers can begin placing their orders (for the 500 Sport, Pop or Lounge) later this year.

I really like the fiat 500 as an alternative to the yaris or aveo, but agree that if they bring it to NA they should bring the Abarth aswell!

Re: Fiat 500 US Market Version Revealed

Finally some specific details on this car

For the first time in nearly 30 years, Fiat has unveiled a production model for the United States.

While the watershed moment isn't much of a surprise - since the company has been showing the European version to build up publicity - it is no less significant.

Built in Mexico, the U.S.-spec 500 has a reinforced body structure, a retuned suspension (sadly, it sounds "dumbed down"), a new anti-lock braking system, a larger fuel tank, and various modifications to reduce noise, vibrations and harshness (NVH). Besides the chassis tweaks, there's a new steering wheel, redesigned seats, and an improved HVAC system.

Three trim levels (Pop, Sport and Lounge) will be available, but they will all be powered by a 1.4-liter MultiAir engine with 101 hp (75 kW / 102 PS) and 98 lb-ft (133 Nm) of torque. It is connected to a five-speed manual, but a six-speed automatic (a U.S. exclusive) is optional.

Available this spring, the 500 will be priced from $15,500 which is $4,600 less than the MINI Cooper.

I am sorry to say that I am pretty disappointed with its design. It is so boring. It reminded me of Volkswagen Beetle. A friend of mine has already purchased it and I will be visiting him on 15th of this month. After that I will be able to give everyone accurate feedback about its performance.

I have always been amazed with fiat, and it would even be a lot better if it were easy to locate fiat parts that do not cost much.

I saw a Fiat 500 sport yesterday in black, looked pretty good. I am also going out to Kenora, Ont for a wedding in early July and so I am driving from Winnipeg and I have booked a Fiat 500 through Budget so hopefully I will get the chance to put 500 good kms on a 500!
