The latest in forbidden fruit is Fiat’s new 500, and what a tart, tasty-looking little morsel it is. The cheeky little hatch will publicly roll out on July 4, just in time to mark the 50 year centennial of the company’s iconic Nuova Fiat 500. Until then, Fiat hopes to pacify the masses with the short press release and a handful of official images that they’ve released today.
The new 500 will be available as a three-door with a trio of engines—a pair of gasoline engines (a 69 brake-horsepower 1.2-liter, and a 100-bhp 1.4-liter), and a 75-bhp 1.3-liter turbodiesel. Five- and six-speed manual gearboxes will be offered initially, and presumably the car will be made with an automatic transmission at some point, as well.
Us? We’re just groovin’ on the car’s retro-minded form and funky little interior. We hope that it drives as well as it looks, and are saddened to know that this car doesn’t stand a snowball’s chance of being imported to North America.
