Found this video on a new Carputer system being developed by VW called Gypsy. Looks very cool and has some impressive features, maybe an option in the future???
Whoa, that's cool. And the Ipod interface!!! just wow, I'm going to have to put that on the volvo forum (they are a more than a little irritated at the Ipod integration)!
I like how it integrates into your house and how it utilizes local (phone) technology to do functions (kind of another layer to current bluetooth technology).
ya, i tend to agree with that irratation (ipod integration)...its only a matter of time until MP3 players start coming out with some sort of bluetooth-style transmitter in them that will transmit @ cd quality (sort of like the FM transmitters right now, but less..sh1tty sounding) and then what are you gonna do with your little ipod cubby?!
and what I dont get....if that car is talking to buddies home network, why not just load your tunes from your network directly into the computer in the car?!

Actually Volvo uses a form of FM transmitter and they hate it. They want something that links directly in as that gives the best quality. Most the factory systems in the Volvo are quite nice so they are irritated that there is no direct line interface (there's not even an audio in jack!!). I think they will be drooling over this haha!
thats cool, in school right now i'm making something like they said near the end of that video, to control home appliances... too bad it wont be from a vw though, internet instead. eheh

Actually Sensolutions is working on an ipod interface for volvo's right now. i know he has a proto done but not sure how far along he is.
I saw this on digg the other day and although it looks cool I think most features will be outlawed before they ever happen. Can you imagine someone even trying to send an email while driving even if they are picking things from a list? Drivers are already paying the least amount of attention to the road as it is they don't need anything alse to take their attention away.

wouldnt that make driving more dangerous? i mean its a pretty cool thing to have and its amazing..but than speaking of safety? i totally agree with Stonewall - how many ppl have crashed their cars while just changing a CD, or playing around with their lsd screen?
A good way to do it would be to make it so it only works while it's in Park or if manual, the e-brake is on. That's the way the factory systems usually work, when people put aftermarket ones in they usually override that function though.
