Re: Audi A3 at the Calgary Auto Show Thread

Well I did a little comparing on the Audi UK website and it is hard to line up the models between A3s and A4s but they do look close in price. I am not sure how they will be for us but if they are the same price as an A4 then I dont think most people would pick the A3 so seems silly to me. That being said I am having visions of one dropped on Mercedes 19s

Re: Audi A3 at the Calgary Auto Show Thread

When I saw the A3, sat in it, looked around, I pretty much felt like it was a higher-end Mk V Golf with a different nameplate. Not really sure its worth the extra $ over a fully loaded Golf.

      I liked it though.

I was not as impressed with the A3 as I thought I would be. I think the key is pricing on this car so until it is official I will just wait and see.

Re: Audi A3 at the Calgary Auto Show Thread

Was the A4 an older model? I normally ignored Audis in the past but so many of you lust over them I had to check em out. I really liked the A4 better than the 3 but both were very nice. I'm assuming they abandoned trying to class VW higher than Audi? The switches and the touch surfaces in the A4 were supreme, especially the sunroof console.

Cars that I was impressed with (for the price) - SRT4, Cobalt - too bad the SS was delayed, TSX, A4, Gallardo, DB9, Phaeton, New Sonata, RX8, Mazdaspeed 6, and of course all the non-SUV Porsches. Also enjoyed the 100 years of motoring display. Show was well worth the 10 bucks. Wife didn't complain once either which was surprising considering how long we were there.

Re: Audi A3 at the Calgary Auto Show Thread

I really love the way the Cobalt looks on the outside, but the interior left a lot to be desired. The one I sat in had very light coloured, rather ugly patterned cloth seats that would likely take me about 4 minutes to stain with something. The interior looked cheap. Ditto for the Mazdas, the Dodges, etc. The only one that really caught my eye was the new Corolla XRS for the sportiness at its new price. There's no way a Corolla with features was that low priced when I was shopping around in 2004.

I purposely sat in all of the comparable-class cars to my TDI Beetle, and really there was little comparison between the VW's and the others in terms of how the interior looked, and overall "little" hidden gems, like storage space inside, defrost mirrors, etc.

I'll take my VW any day, as my stock interior feels like a lot more expensive car comparable to many of the luxury cars and high-end sports cars at the show. Two years running now I spend 3 hours at the Auto Show and really feel good walking back to my car, sitting in it, and comparing how well the inside looks and holds up compared to every equivilent car at the show.

Sure! I'd trade a cobalt for an a4.

i think what kris means is that the cobalt is simply a sunfire or cavalier sup'd up and nothing special.. if i was spending 16 g's for a car it'd be a mazda3

It's not a jbody - they are still selling the cav/sunfire. It's based on the ion chasis which is pretty decent.

One car I was looking forward to that disappointed on the interior side was the 300C. Great car, blah int.

Re: Audi A3 at the Calgary Auto Show Thread

Well after checking out the A3 this afternoon, I too have to say I was a bit dissapointed. I had hyped it up in my head a little too much I think. I really liked the interior, everything felt really good... but I think I'm a little spoiled with my car because the seats and other interior stuff is so good... and I love my steering wheel. I really dislike the 4 doors on the A3, mostly because I find it really hard to get in and out of. I wish they had brought over the 2 door version, that would be SOOOO much better.

The cars that I really liked there were the new Boxter (yes, poor mans Porsche), and the Z. I really liked the feel of sitting in the Z, but I'd need to test drive it for sure. Also really liked the G35 coupe. The RX8 doesn't have remotely enough power.

Just my thoughts on the show.

Oh and I thought the new Jetta sucked... especially the huge "Passenger Air Bag Disabled" indicator in the middle of the dash... what's up with that???
