  • Wuddaya think of my latest photo?

Took these tonight while playing with some camera setups. They came out pretty well I think

I'm gonna try and take these again when it's night out to get some lighting effects, but for now these test shots seem to work.

How the hell do you take those shots???? I've seen them in EVO magazine a bunch of times and always assumed they had some super intricate camera mount. What did you use?

I was thinking the same thing as the 2 previous posts. It looks like there is no one in the drivers seat. Is the car sitting still and you just added some out of fiocus to the shot to make it look like it is moving?

Looks good man. You'll have to spill how you made that.

Well, it wasn't too difficult actually. There is no filters or photoshop editing. These pictures are right out of the camera. The "rig" I made is totally ghetto The shots aren't perfect, I just wanted to test the feasibility of the setup.
Basically, I just mounted my tripod to the side of the car and secured it with the shoulder strap from my camera bag. It doesn't seem like there's much holding it there, but the laws of physics are keeping it in place The tension from the strap and the way the weight of the camera presses against the car is surprisingly stable. I obviously wouldn't go ripping around with this setup as it would most likely fall off, but for those slow turning shots it worked great. I wrapped and taped the feet of the tripod to the car with painters tape. This doesn't hold it against the car (the weight of the setup does). It just helps reduce possible vibration and shifting when the car accelerates and stops.

The shutter speed was slowed to about 1/20 and the aperture closed to its max setting. White balance and AE lock were set. I set the camera timer, jumped in the car, and started driving around in a tight circle at about 5kmh. Once I got the car rolling, the engine was shut off and the car was coasted to prevent vibration from the engine..... And Voila! Magazine style rolling shots

That's a wicked idea. Well done! That's definitely one of the benefits of a light camera and a light tripod. I could never do that with my setup because it's way too heavy.
