I never realized your car had to be showroom condition just because its from another province, seems a little overboard when there are so many unsafe cars on the road.

You should try to get a Salvage inspection done, they are so much more picky!

I recommend that you put everything back to stock as close as possible. When a place sees things that are not stock they start getting extra picky.
Also try to see if it's the led burnt out by simply twisting on a working LED to the terminal wires. yIF nit works then the LED is dead, you could just solder it or leave the twist tie for the length of the OOPI.

These clusters use surface mount diodes, you cant just twist an LED on to see.

We have already concluded that the other recently imported one in the club also does not have a CEL light that comes on.

I swear, My Japanese 2000 S4 came with the Audi owners manual. It shows the graphic of the instrument panel with all the idiot lights along with their meaning and a CEL is not one of them. You're chasing a ghost with that one. Maybe check with B-Pro here in Calgary, they import cars from Japan and may be able to give you a definitive answer.

Are you sure that the engine light doesn't show up in the small LCD in between the speedo and tach? Rather than having a dedicated light in the cluster.

Tyler you may be a genius! I drained and filled up my coolant yesterday and it was a little low still while i was filling it. Got that same image on the lcd screen, is that considered a CEL?

I don't think it is. My Jetta will do the low coolant image on screen, but when i had a bad MAF sensor the check engine light came on separately

I guess it depends on the type of Diode, the older ones have the diode terminals easy to access.

Anyway I think you are right, some cars in Japan didn't follow ODBII and don't have a CEL.
