Not really both would still have the weight way out front. Now that Isaam at INA/Sean@SRM/DrBeastCar are developing big turbo kits and all the swap pieces for the swaps it is starting to make sense for both reliable huge power and cost. The 2.7 can get there but would not be as bullet proof and the 4.2 will never get there. And C'mon a Wide,Wide body B5 RS4 with a 1000awhp 07K would be the coolest thing ever. I am thinking Satin medium gray paint with a lot of "Clockwork Orange" Carbon Fiber.

I'd hit it! Although I'd be biased toward a WB B6S4 Avant myself, I much prefer the exterior and interior styling over the B5.
And FWIW the 07k is not much more weight than an AMB (guessing 50 lbs-ish) and only 1" longer, so the weight dynamics aren't as bad as one would think.

Anyone know the differences between Euro & Japanese spec? Looks like you could get it landed for under $30k.
I think a few of us watched that one cross the auction block. The japan specs were just a German car with Japanese text on some of the control buttons and navigation. Also it seem that all the Japanese rs4s have that cloth interior with the piano black trim. I think this was the base interior option in Germany. Most were optioned with Napa or Napa/Alcantara in Europe with the CF trim

On a side note I am not not sure how comfortable that I would be with a import broker that was bidding against you. Maybe the deal fell through from a previous client ?? But it looks like they are selling it a a 9k markup right of the bat. I would have guessed at that one would have been 16-18k landed here. I guess if they see what people are asking for them here then its each to his own.

Where are you finding the original auction information?
There are ways to look up the previous auction results to an extent. I believe you have a 3 month window
16-18k seems unrealistic. I'm not sure what you are basing this on as majority of RS4's are selling in the 2m yen which is approx. 23K CAD + all the fees for a non-accident vehicle under 100k kms. If anyone has any specific questions or wants true information please do not hesitate to PM me. I have imported over 60 cars in the past 10 years.
