Re: New BMW M2 next week?

So much VAG kool aid in this thread! Damn.
Car looks super, I'm with TJ on this one (and hopefully you do get one). Personally I think the M3/4 are a good fit - they're as big as the A/S4. The M2/235 is a tad on the small side of the spectrum, but to each their own. I like having a back seat and be able to throw the occasional passengers back there and head to the mountains for the weekend.
Back to the M2 discussions: what's impressive is they're able to put that power down to the rear wheels and get to 4.3s in a car that weighs as much as mk6 Golf R. The interior in bimmers has always been subtle but it doesn't take anything away from the comfort and function. They may not look it but those seats bolster as good as the boy racer recaro looking things in the Evo X. I think without seeing one or sitting in one its hard to make any judgement calls.

Re: New BMW M2 next week?

Personally, I'm still trying to interpret whether I like or don't like the looks of the M2. At the end of the day, I think I'm going to have to wait to see this one in person. With all of the fender flares, bulges and creases... its just not going to translate for me until I see it in the flesh.

Looks aside, the M2 has all the right stuff for my next car... RWD (or heavy RWD bias), check; High HP:Weight ratio, check; Manual, check; Has or will have a huge aftermarket following, check; classifies as a EuroDriver, check.

I guess what it comes down to now is... what (if anything) is happening with the RS3 for Canada or is there another used option (ie. Cayman, older 911, other euro) that I like better for the same money. Time will tell.

I agree. I didn't really like the photos of the m235 but, my opinion changed when i saw one in person. I hope it'd the same with the m2.

A pretty terrible pic, but the first in black.

I agree on the appearance factor for the M2. I'm sold on the fundamentals of it, but I hope it's not "weirdly proportioned" like the 1M was. (although I LOVE that car in principle)

Why would you choose the RS3 over the Mk7 Golf R?

Ahh. Fair point, that's a wonderful sound. I've yet to hear a 2.0T that I genuinely loved the sound of -- including my own.

The price difference, no manual, and that there are driving reviews that put them at par were my reasons for asking.

Damn that sounds good, and a perfect everyday car for Canada. Any word on if we are getting these?

I think Tj has a pre order deposit for one. Pretty slick though, really need to hurry my life up so I can have that crisis.

The grille on the front fenders looks silly compared to the rest of the range. Looks like a Crappy Tire special
