87 Audi 5000 cs new to me

Bought my first Audi and I love it amazing car. WOW
Course there are always gremlins. Mine is the idle. Most times its normal. Today the rpm wouldn't drop below 10.5. Just wondering if any one can give me an idea where and what to look for. Thanks

Check vacuum lines for leaks.

Is this car a 10v with CIS?

But yes, definitely start off by checking for vac leaks.

Digging way back into my memory there was some issues with the idle control valve on 4000s and 5000s and a fix was OEM replacement or using one from a RX7.

You are correct about it being an issue not saying that it is his problem, the ICV can also be taken off and cleaned with carb cleaner, it is easy to test its function as well because it is a simple solenoid valve.

the isv would cause the idle to jump up and down and cause car to stall. it could not hurt to clean it though. my guess is old vac lines and or valve cover gasket maybe. a full "tune up" is what my UrS4 needed to get back to normal.

CIS is the precursor to EFI. Would result in different things to look at, like the fuel distributor vs. injectors etc.

Is it a 10v or 20v?
