Audi R10 Supercar Coming???
We haven't heard much about Audi's Le Mans-inspired supercar lately but a new report is indicating it has been approved for production.
According to Auto Motor & Sport, the high-performance model will be called the R10 and feature a lightweight carbon fiber monocoque chassis. The car will reportedly be slightly larger than the R8 and have a Le Mans-inspired design that looks more at home on the track than the road.
While the model was originally envisioned to use a diesel engine like the Le Mans winning R18 e-tron quattro, rumors suggest the car will have a twin-turbo 6.0-liter V10 that develops 850 PS (625 kW). The engine will reportedly feature cylinder deactivation technology which will allow it to run on six-cylinders when maximum performance isn't required. There are also rumors of a hybridized variant which would use the aforementioned V10 engine as well as an electric motor to produce a combined maximum output of up to 1000 PS (735 kW).
The R10 will reportedly go into production in 2016 and be built in limited quantities. Nothing is official but speculation suggests the model could cost as much as the Porsche 918 Spyder.
