Ryan, do you tune switch before service? Considering getting my car APR flashed, but I need to know 100% if flash switching before service will avoid the TD1 status. I love my S4 how it is, but I would like to hold boost a bit longer then factory!

pretty sure td1 is only really new ecus, like the b8 s4, even the mk2 tt cant do td1

besides, switching will do nothing, as the crc is diff, for you to pass you must flash the oem soft back on

Im in a 2014 S4. So im a bit confused, flashing back to OEM will or will not avoid TD1?

oh sorry missed your title, i read ryan + s4 = b5 haha

i think if you flash back vs tune switching you have a better chance, there is this also thing called a flash counter...

picked up a couple of these http://shop.britishracinggroup.com/O...G-KFOBD2PP.htm

i tell the dealer whatever you do, do not hook up the computer, i reset the oil service myself with vcds, that is the easiest thing to do vs reflashing tunes, etc

Thankfully the MMI can reset oil, but Royal Oak was kinda dodgy talking to me about flashes. They said "be honest if you have one and we will accommodate" but I don't want some new kid plugging in and TD1'ing me.

Also, just noticed you have a TTRS, sweeet!

If you do flash you car kiss your drivetrain warranty good bye. The only way to avoid getting caught is to have a separate ECU. Even if you set your tune back to stock Audi will know you have a tune as soon as they plug it in and then hello TD1. They don't have a choice if they want to TD1 you or not. The system Audi uses automatically detects it and then flags you and sends it off to Audi headquarters. Check on audizine, there's huge threads about it. You just have to decide if you can live without warranty or not

How is it false? It happened to me 2 yrs ago and I lost my engine warranty. The only way I was told for it to be avoided was to get a new ECU and swap them each time I needed a service or have the one in the car flashed back to stock.

Yes, you do need to have ECU flashed back to stock

Its false because you can not buy a secondary ECU for the B8 S4. for those that have has to switch ECUs the car had to be towed to the dealer and the key recoded to the new ECU.

Also - flashing the car back to stock software does work. and no you do not need to do this when going for basic service work.

That's not entirely true. Even in basic service on the vehicle the scan tool has to be hooked up, if an SVM comparison is performed that will flag the vehicle as TD1. It can be as fast as 10 mins to get a TD1 bounced back from Germany. As for having 2 ECU's we aren't 100% yet if that will work due to the immobilzer, we are interested to see if anyone wants to gamble a couple grand on an ECU...
