  • Looking for opinions on a B6 A4

The time has come for me to start looking at getting a second vehicle and I'm looking at some B6 A4's. I have done some research on them but I figured I would ask for others opinions on a low kms B6 A4 with a 3.0 gas engine. Just wondering if I should stay away from this engine or what. The specific year of the car I am looking at is a 2002. I am open to any year though. The car I am currently interested in has like 110k and the timing belt was just done on it. Apparently the cats on these engines are an issue of some sort?

    Thanks!

i have an '03 3.0l wagon. i originally bought it for my wife as a replacement for our '07 rabbit, when our baby came along. i wanted something that i would enjoy driving since i usually drive when we all go out somewhere. it felt it had the right amount of power and drive ability for what i was looking for in a family car. plus it has the 6 speed in it. she has an suv now so it has become my car, and i love it. it's zippy enough to have fun but not get into really any trouble. economy is relative to my right foot so it's good and bad lol. i'm the 3rd owner and it has 240xxx kms on it. i replaced the timing belt when i bought it. it's a relatively easy job, if you've done a few audi v6 belts before. similar to the 2.8l but with some different locking tools. i also replaced the dial mass flywheel with a single mass s4 kit. i've owned it for a year now and other than a few small issues it had when i bought it, it's been a fairly reliable car. i do have a reoccurring CEL for the cats, but i don't really care about it when the light's off. that came with the car also haha.
you probably don't like me because someone else said they didn't lol. <3

Had my 2002 3.0 for 5 years now did the timing belt and pcv system hoses, that's it apart from routine stuff.
I'm at 195k now had a code for the cats about 6 months ago,and has not come back again yet.

3.0s are "slow" but they aren't actually that slow. My dad had a 3.0 for a while and it was lots of fun to drive. Pretty reliable as far as I know but also can be a bit of a ***** to work on if I'm not mistaken there either.
I wouldn't turn down a good deal on a 3.0 B6 for a daily! They're comfortable, peppy and reliable! And they aren't pigs on gas either they are actually pretty good in that department! Excellent highway drivers!

Awesome. I really wish I could find a B6 A4 Wagon loaded with the 3.0 and 6 speed. Unfortunately I haven't had much luck finding one. Most people special order them and then drive them till they die. I think I will jump on this car.

Those are nice cars, I just didn't want to bother with the Importing work that would be involved. I managed to find one with 116,000 km's in town for $7000. It's not a wagon but I can live with that for now.
