  • 335i whistling when coming off boost

On the way home I noticed my 335i sounded like a damn ricer... It boosts normally, but when you lay off boost it whsitles like a BOV. I am thinking a divvy is broken or part of the piping to them is damaged.

What would be the best way to locate the damage?

Video of the motor, but no sound of the BOV.

The clacking only seems to happened after a drive... No leaks, no weird happenstances...

It could be a bad Dv allowing the air to flow back into the turbo its called flutter

and can cause some major damage.
    But thats just my opinion

Replace divvys? Or replace charge pipe with a BOV setup and bypass all piping?

Car is parked until repair. I took it for one drive tonight to try and diagnose, but hopefully that hasn't caused any harm. No tools here... Could be very very tricky to work on.

I would replace Dv's before going all out on the Chare pipe and BOV setup as the diverters would cost less to replace. Then go from there, but usually it takes a big of back force to cause turbo damage or prolonged fluttering which is what ricers do and it literally kills the turbo ahah. It counter spins the turbine. and you about replacing all the hosing and such if you dont hear the whine while boosting i doubt its a leak

I'll pop the intakes off tomorrow so I can inspect the divs better.

But this sounds like it, since I still boost and hold proper. I didn't get a flutter sound... but there was that hard whistle on throttle release.

Since my new tune my car has been whistling a bit more, but it sounded like a typical diverter on an open intake.

You can always test your diverter valves to see if they are working properly or if the diaphragm is torn. Might be the cheapest solution

Problem is where it'd parked theres no tools.

I pulled the front diverter, the locking tab was broken. Doubt that's the cause.

the charge pipes are known to fail when you increase boost. maybe take a closer to look to see if that is your issue.
could be a crack or something in it.
if it was me, i would replace the charge pipe with a metal one and get aftermarket diverters.

Can't you just check for boost leaks instead of throwing parts at it because you hear a noise?

Whistle on a turbo car, to me, would usually mean some sort of boost leak.
