  • A4 B5 outer CV

I've been tackling front passenger side axle for a while now, and it's been a mission so far to get the new CV joint back into the hub.
I've tried every possible method and maybe you guys have dealt with this problem before.
the steering wheel is turned all the way to the left and gear is in neutral.

I got the cv from ebay, its not an oem.

You sure its the correct part? Same year, engine / tranny? It could be the wrong part

How does it compare to the old one?

I have never run into this issue before. Just need to spin the axle / hub so the splines line up and then in it goes.

      Re: A4 B5 outer CV

Why don't you just undo the lower ball joint, swing the hub away from the car, move the CV into the correct spot and then bolt the ball joint back in?
You are just having troubles installing it right??

        Re: A4 B5 outer CV

Do not undo the lower ball joints.
It should slip into the hub without issue. However I've scene Hubs and cvs get corrosion and need to be cleaned up with files or emery cloth.
Also be sure you have an B5 A4 or S4 cv. As they are different. The S4 is bigger as is a b6.

Although looking at your pictures it looks like you need to get the end into the hub first before the transmission end.

Its a little bit bigger in size or longer you could say. I agree with what you have to say, the tranny wasn't specified in this ad, I just made a quick assumption at the time, imo this might be for a fwd. I only paid 36$ which is not to bad of a loss

I've tried that before, but there was no possibilities due to lack of space , this is the closest I could get it to. at this point I don't think I'm gonna rip anything apart but look into the part itself.

Turn the wheel hard to whatever side your doing the axle on. Push the shaft from the bottom into the hub. Then put the transmission side into the car.
I think you have the correct shaft however.

I tried that previously before I put the transmission side in. It's more problematic that way because of the heat shield, and I managed to strip one of the screws on the heat shield when I originally wanted to take it out. so I forgot about that pretty much.

the specs on the box don't even mention the fwd or quattro neither did the seller so I'm contemplating maybe get another one that is quattro for definite.

There is no difference between Quattro or fwd. you need to get the wheel end in the hub before the transmission side. It's the only way to do it without disconnecting the control arms.

well in that case I'm going to give it another go, The upper control arms have already been disconnected btw....

... I just confirmed that it is in fact the wrong part, the diameter of the tip of the old one is 2.9cm while the new one is 2.5cm

For sure the wrong part if your having this much difficulty. If the part was purchased at autovalue/parts source... well any of those shops they can't search your car by vin. each engine takes a different axle, took parts source 3 times before they got me the right axle for my passat. To them they see like 98-04 passat fwd and assume its the right part. looks like you have the same issue with my second axle... to long. remove the new axle and put it side by side with the old one, is probably 1" longer. First issue I had was the right length but the shoulder bolt was the wrong diameter

this. no need to touch either lower ball joints. Lift the inner joint above the axle flange and slide the outer joint in with the steering full lock right. should slide right in
