More then likely a spark plug in the tail pipe to ignite the exhaust gas. THa tis done lots on old hot rods.

I don't think that's a spark plug in the tail pipe trick. If you run a set of big cams,chip and exhaust with straight mufflers on a vr6 it is very easy to get it to ingnite the unburnt fuel in the exhaust. If you notice it only happens at high revs. Plus the smoke that comes out when he just sits there makes it look like it is running very rich. Or because the file name is vr6tt it could be that there is turbo blow by, but that car doesn't sound like a turbo vr6 so I doubt it.
