Oh man, do you know how built mine was? I have no interest in a dinky little 2.0T. No 4bangers. Ever. I'm completely in love with BMW, only reason I didn't own one before is I couldn't afford anything I liked.

Oh okay, I didn't know that 'how built' your car was, was a factor. I'd go for the trade then, an '05 M3, if its been properly maintained and is in good shape would be more of a car than a pre-LCI e90. It would be easier to sell and is almost on par for value with your car, sounds like a win-win.

I thought you were thinking I drove a stock, slow as ever B5. I just wanted to make sure you realized it wasn't slow. In terms of handling and all that I just do not like Audi at all, I've driven a B7 A4 before and it was nothing special.

I thought if anything the M3 was worth more? This one has a few little goodies, like a nice set of summers, a CSL trunk. Just had a valve adjustment done too at Bryan Jessel BMW, and just passed its OOP.

Well it seems like you know exactly what you want/don't want so why don't you just go test drive it and see for yourself?

Because I am the most unbelievably stubborn person in Calgary, those of you who have met me know this. That and the M3 is in Edmonton, I plan to drive out tomorrow, but I don't want a wasted trip...

The other thing is I'm pretty vain... Everyone thinks my E90 is new, the E46 looks dated, and those who don't know what ///M is don't care.

SMG is a little weird. Not horrible. Just feels a little slow around town. It bangs through gears in sport or race or whatever. That's fun.

The car feels underpowered in my opinion. 335 with a tune has a much more useable powerband day to day.

Feel of the E46 when pushing it a little bit is pretty great though. 335 feels much softer. That might be what you want though.

                  Re: Keep the 335 or get a 05 M3?

I've had both...07 335 coupe and 04 M3. Would take the 335 coupe over the M3 for sure. For everyday drivability the SMG is horrible unless you punch it all the time. And honestly you'll be disappointed with the M3. I found it was highly overrated. Looks real good but doesn't feel like you are driving something special. And they are hard as hell to sell if you don't like it especially the SMG.

When i was looking at E46 M3's thats what kept me away, SMG that is. And it never helped there wasn't a Laguna Blue for sale :( I'd say maybe just find a local SMG m3 and give it a go before going to edmonton just to see if SMG is something you would like?

                      Re: Keep the 335 or get a 05 M3?

Seeing as the E46 M3 has been one of my teenage dream cars (and one day I will own one, even if for a short period), this is what I have heard from other BMW guys. The S54 is basically a detuned race engine. The engineers pushed this engine to its limits, so there really isnt much to do unless you decide to go FI, at which point you're looking at high $$$. As for daily driver, I wouldnt. I heard this is a great car, but its boring on the streets. Most who get their enjoyment out of this car are driving it hard and above 5000RPM for the most part.

If Calgary still had a track and this car was put to that use, I would say go all day long. But honestly I dont think it'll be what you're hoping. Plus I heard SMG is good on the track, and just awful and jerky on the street.

                                You win this round...

I'd drive an S4 or RS4 if I could afford one But for the price, the 335i is a mean machine.
