      Is this something that is requested in the manual or something that is a result of poor engineering?

        crazy! i've never heard of such a practice until googling it today.. seems you can use it on painted walls,fences, etc

        interesting.

            They use it on "American Restoration" occasionally. I've heard it referenced with cars, but this thread is the first time I've actually read about what its purpose is in an automotive context.

              Something all direct injection cars seem to need... If they sold it with a catch can it wouldn't happen... But like any average joe is gonna deal with a catch can

                  Yeah, it's not that uncommon. Walnut shells are actually used to add traction to some types of tires.
