    Hey all,

Looking for a new car and have been looking at some 2008-2009 4 door 335xi's. Just wondering those who have one or work on them have any words of wisdom. Things they like/dislike. Probelmatic things to look out for. It seems like one of the best bang for your buck in terms of styling and performance. Your input is greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

If you get a 335i see if the warranty work was done (HPFP and turbo wastegates)... I have a 335i (non-xdrive), and they are an amazing drive! And **** are they fast... Outdoes my old Audi even!

Also if you're looking at transmission types... The steptronic 6spd auto is actually really good, I haven't owned an auto since my Passat because of performance issues... The BMW I ended up going back to auto because the shifting was almost perfect (that and the turbo's keep going on shifts!).

Is this a recall? When does it need to be done?

        The one I'm looking at is a 2008 335xi with 58,000 kms

The wastegate recall was only on American cars I think.
I took my 135i (n54) for a recall for some 12+ battery cord or something, and It was the only recall available.
But make sure the fuel pump recall was done for sure.

Late to the party, but if you make a big deal about it... They will do the wastegate warranty. You might have to call up BMWNA, but something will be done about it. There is a current class action suite in progress in Canada about it.

It is usually an easy fix involving tightening the rear wastegate actuator arm though (can't find the link for it, but it's on E90Post). The most recent ECU flash can "fix" it too by leaving the rear wastegate open on idle too.

Ended up getting a Montego Blue 335xi and I love it.

Thanks I'll look into that wastegate issue. I also see you have some new parts for yours on the way from BMS. I'd really like to hear your feedback on them once you have em installed. Currently I've got the ECUProgram stage 1 with an AFE drop in filter but looking to do some other mods.

Sim at ECU is a good guy, but i wouldn't bother with those tunes. I would stick to JB4 or Cobb, you spend less, and get a hell of a lot more. My JB4 was... $500 all said an done (came with a bunch of other addons). JB4 is also not flashed, so when it comes time to sell, you open up the ECU box and remove it, and can resell it. If you wanna make more boost definitely open up your intake, and consider downpipes and a bigger FMIC.

Depending on your millage look into a wallnut blast, intake ports might be all coked up.

Ya I was looking at the JB4 and it seems like the way to go. It has all kinds of features and different maps that will support future mods. Now if I wanted to get a JB4 and my car already has the ECUProgram do I need to take the it in to get the ECU Program removed? or would it just over ride it. I'm not entirely sure how that stuff works.

I've got almost 58,000 on the clock.

You would need to get them to reflash the ecu back to stock before modifying with cobb or JB4

As Nathaniel said, they gotta flash it back.

58,000! Holy poop man. Slap a oil catch can in there, your valves are probably still nice and clean.

JB4 is on sale right now too from BMS and N54Tuning too!

Thought I'd update you there stone, been running JB4 and the other stuff a few days now.

Wow is it fast... the car explodes off the line now. And with the DCI you can hear the much missed turbo whine

That's wicked. How long did the installs take?

Hard to say, as I was doing my oil filter stand gasket too. With that I took 5 hours, but that was 3 of them or so.

Doing the JB4 doesn't take long at all, just don't do what I did and forget the ECU harness clip.

Going to ECUProgram Friday to have my new FRM2 coded for AE DRL's.

If you wanna go for a spin in mine to see if it's worth buying I'm fine with that! Just PM me.
