  • lets talk mounts!!

just want to get your opinions on something... I've been getting a fair amount of drive train moment when on and off throttle, reading up on it, it seems to be the rear diff mount, seeing as its the only mount that has not been changed in the car i don't doubt that's the case any one have experience installing one of these how difficult or easy is it?

thinking of picking up the APIKOL mount off 034's we site along with their rear sway kit to tighten the car up!!!

    Re: lets talk mounts!!

i have the apikol rear diff carrier mount.. it helps

so this is what i've done

apikol rear diff carrier, apikol rear diff bushings, stern tranny mounts and stern motor mounts, APR snub mount

the car tightened up a ton but the shifter still moves back/forth if you notice that or not ? ahha all s4s do it

next one for me is probably buying a DTS bar too

but anyways the above mods for me makes the car shake pretty good.. not hardcore race car shaking but enough if it may drive you insane.. either way worth it for me at the end of the day and i don't need to keep change in the cup holder anyways

What trans and motor mount density are you guys running? Track density or solid mounts will go a long way at the expense of vibration.

Stern street density engine, transmission and snub mounts... and there is still some vibration in the colder weather, i also do have a DTS...

is a Canadian company that carries the APIKOL mount/ sway bar? thefinalcost.com tells me that its going to be another $200 when all is said and done.... Canada sucks sometimes :(

There is a DIY way of doing the same thing as Apikol mount will do. I know a few very high HP S4s have gone this route. You fill the cavity of the stock mount with high durometer polyurethane. You can get any durometer through places like Industrial Plastics. Maybe we should have a ploy pouring day for all those who have not done the Apikol route.

you can see the cavity that needs filling.

You will only see it when you open the box!

After reading your post was trying to see the drive line movement and feel it in my shifter. I have very little movement. There is a lot of vibration transferred. I have track density stasis and 034 mounts. I have the full 034 sway and brace and cage now so the car feels really solid but that would have no effect on drive line movement. I have a feeling if you want to reduce the movement (you can"t get rid of it completely) the key is track density or solid mounts. But then it will feel like a race car.

agree that you cant get rid of it completely but its seems to be excessive, the car was nice and tight when i got it but i have a feeling that the rear mount just started disintegrating as more and more stage 3 miles where put on it so i think the upgrade will help a substantial amount.

i may just try the durometer route, to tell you the truth i haven't heard about it till you brought it up.

and the sway bar was never intended to help with the drive line moment just to tighten the car around corners.

Or you buy a Stern Power Ring from Ryan and the problem is solved, if you don't know what it is, look it up

Wow and that is about what it would cost for the poly mix. U have one?

                        Re: lets talk mounts!!

It's not the B5 but I'd think almost "alike" When I got sick of the drivetrain slop on my old A6 2.7t, I upgraded to the street density 034 motor mounts, track density tranny mounts, 034 snub mount and AWE DTS bar. This combo tightened up everything. The DTS bar is worth the money. No more missed shifts, and grinds.

You could upgrade the motor mounts to track density as well. I heard the Stern Motor Mounts were super aggressive, maybe someone can chime in.

Similar but not the same, the B5 chassis has a rear diff with a long snout, this snout allows for a whole lot of movement in the back end, luckily the C5 chassis uses a much smaller snout on the diff and therefore reacts very well to motor/trans/snub/DTS, unfortunately the B5 front rear diff mount tends to rip/teat and wear out under normal high spirited driving.

Look into the Stern Power Ring, you don't have to buy mine, but just realize that there is something available to help resolve the exact issue you are describing
