Re: And so it begins...allroad transformation

I agree with Ryan, if I would've just removed the seats I probably would've had a lot easier time. I must of looked like a gymnast the way I was laying on the floor half in the car lol

I am surprised that with the number of Audi's you have worked on you haven't done the finger mod.

I did the mod while doing the work thanks to the razor blades Audi likes to use for their various clips...my hands look like I did a few passes with a cheese grater

Love the detail on the tough bits Kyle, keep the updates coming!

Nice shot with the upgrade to man-pedal, looks good.

how much work is it to actually swap the tranny? seems pretty crazy.. too bad you couldn't swap in a DSG tranny

ps kyle didn't you have a flappy paddle steering wheel? want to swap it over haha? my wife would love that

Re: And so it begins...allroad transformation

It's not really that the work is difficult, more that it's just a million little steps that always end up taking longer than they should. Example: I got the engine and tranny out in a few hours only to fight splitting the tranny for almost 2 hours because of one bad bolt. Of course it was the bolt on the lower drivers side of the tranny BEHIND the motor mount so there was no way to get at it without taking a bunch of other stuff off. I then had to heat/cut/drill the bolt out before I could finally split the transmission... Don't know why but I always seem to find one stripped bolt whenever I do work that just causes a major headache.

PS - flappy paddle was in the S4 (MK1 TT wheel/bag)...but I will be adding a 3-spoke multifunction wheel to the allroad once the swap is all done

No picture update...yet. I had a few spare hours this weekend and finally made some more progress. New turbros, inlets, etc. installed, full timing belt kit done (don't know why I was worried - piece of cake), flywheel/clutch installed and 01E mated to engine. Waiting on my engine/tranny mounts to arrive and then everything will be going back in the car...then it's the final home stretch. Button everything up and a bit of wiring for the swap and I should be good to go. Pics to follow...

                        Update

First off, I am absolutely terrible with taking pictures while I am working...so just pretend you see everything back in the car lol

I didn't touch the car from my last post until New Year's day as I had quite a bit of time off for the holidays and spent it with the family instead. However, I am now done the swap and am currently just waiting for my cluster to come back (sent out it out for repair). Fluids are in the car and I just need to bleed the brakes/clutch and then I will fire it up.

The only issue I am currently having is I cannot shift into reverse. All gears row fine other than reverse so I am assuming it needs to be adjusted. Anyone local ever dealt with this?

Re: And so it begins...allroad transformation

Small update while I wait for my tune...

Cluster came back from Pixelfix.info and it looks amazing! As my car was originally a US car it always bugged me that the cluster was in MPH, etc. I had the overlay switched to a metric one and also included a nice little touch with the 'allroad' text. Picture is horrible quality, sorry, but it looks awesome in person!

Re: And so it begins...allroad transformation

The swap is FINALLY complete. I have my base stage 3 tune running on the car right now with a couple revisions to go, but it runs great!

Thanks to Colin and Carl at CAW for some last minute help (lovely seized rear caliper), and to Ryan (Mantis) for his help along the way

Final task is to install my 17Z front brakes and 034 300mm rear kit and then the car will be 100% done...until something breaks lol
