  • B6/B7 coilover install experience?

    hey guys,

I am about to undertake a coilover/control arm swap in my B7 Avant, and wondering how many of you have experience with it. I have read the horror stories on audizine etc. about the pinch bolt, and am certainly not looking forward to that. any other tips, findings, suggestions, etc?? I have all the tools I need, like spring compressor, air tools, torch, pilsner tall cans, but am looking for first hand tips.

feel free to post here, or PM me, doesnt matter.

    thanks in advance.

    -Mike

It's an awful job. Last time I did it, I ended up having to replace all the parts on the one corner. All the control arms and balljoints, spindle, hub, everything.

In the 3 times I've done it I've never had issues.

This happened on the pass side of my S4. The rear springs also suck to do..

The two times I did it on the allroad I had no issues.

Its the first job I ever tackled on any car. Spring compressors are the bomb. Follow the DIY on audizine, and when tou're doing the rears, drop the rear subframe. Some guys are able to pull the springs out just by doing that, but I needed to use the compressors.
            Good luck!

Well, they're in. Wasn't that awful, long story short. Thanks again for all the input.

take out the axle, best advice i can give. Its tight in there and you run the risk of over extending the inner joint
