2014 Audi A3 Cabrio
Audi has taken the wraps off the 2014 A3 Cabriolet which will be shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show starting next week.
Compared to its predecessor, the new model has grown in size as the overall length has been increased from 4.24m to 4.42m, along with the width from 1.77m to 1.79m. The wheelbase has been stretched from 2.58m to 2.60m, while the height was reduced by 15mm to 1.41m. As a result of the extended wheelbase, the four-seater provides more room for those sitting in the back, along with an extra 60 liters in the cargo area. Despite being bigger, the car has shed a considerable 50 kg (110 lbs) compared to the model it replaces.
It comes with a new soft cloth top that can be opened or closed in less than 18 seconds at speeds of up to 31 mph (50 km/h). For more money clients can opt for an "acoustic top" which has a thicker inner foam layer meant to reduce interior noise.
The 2014 Audi A3 Cabriolet will be offered upon launch with a 1.4 TFSI delivering 140 HP (103 kW), a 1.8 TFSI outputting 180 HP (132 kW) and a 2.0 TDI rated at 150 HP (110 kW). Later on, the model will be available with a 110 HP (81 kW) 1.6 TDI and a 300 HP (221 kW) 2.0 TFSI in the S3 Cabriolet. Mated to a six-speed S tronic, the range-topping S3 will need 5.4s from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) and will return 33.13 mpg (39.6 mpg UK or 7.1 liters / 100 km).
