  • So tempting...

So I got offered the car I want most... An E36 M3. A straight across trade for my A4. It had a stock motor, low millage, carbon fibre hood, beautiful rims and tires... BUT it was rebuilt status thanks to being rear ended once... And it was an American import.

Too bad rebuilt is the death of cars when it comes to selling... Better luck in the future I guess, maybe one day.

Sorry but the point of this thread is?
A rebuilt status is definitely a game changer in my opinion.

I don't know man, I just thought I'd share for some reason. That's what forums are for

I see a good point to this thread.... Rebuilt cars can be tricky.

My mk4 has a rebuilt title and I just sold my car for about the same amount as a regular "non rebuilt car". Call me lucky but my car ran extremely well with a rebuilt title. If you plan on owning this m3 for a long time. I say go for it. Get a car fax, get an inspection, drive the rebuilt car, try and drive a non rebuilt title m3 if you can. It will give you a good idea if the car is good.

In my opinion, I have no issues buying a rebuilt car, as Long as you have taken the necessary precautions when buying it. Yes you may have a little bit of a harder time selling it in the future, but I think it is worth it if owning it for a long period of time.

My other problem is its owned by a clueless 16 year old. I should have realized when he said "meet me at the bishop o'byrne parking lot"... I'm a Audi/VW guy, have been all my life, no BMW experience either then helping my old man change the oil in his e46 when I was younger... And I could tell him more about his m3 then he could tell me. There was also a bunch of little things I'd have to fix, just everything about the car screamed abused and poorly treated to me (my favourite was the illegally reset odometer!). I myself may drive like I stole my car sometimes, but I take great care of it and love it to pieces, and know how it's put together... Him and his little buddy were outright trying to screw me... I got 4 years on them kids, I'm not dumb.

I can hope that I can find a mature/knowledgable E36 driver who will trade, or sell my A4 outright and just buy one. I know for sure that's the car I want now though...

Also with the holding onto it for a long time... Unfortunately the way I am, I change things up fairly often (evidence being the A4 I just dumped a ton of money into and am now trying to flip). It's just some weird part of my personality, it will be the death of me. I've just learned to go with it because I can't stop it. Only car I kept for a long time was my B5.5 Passat with a PES G2 Supercharger.

I bought a car with a salvage status it was my mkv Fahrenheit, fixed it and did an inspection and then it has a rebuilt status, car was in perfect shape after. I sold it afterwards and car is still in good shape like 4 years later, so I guess its how it was fixed.

There are no issues with a salvage car if you know what you are getting into. I bought my jetta as a salvage car because it had a coil pack fir the was put out by the hood blanket. There was no body or smoke damage but it was writen off because a harness and intake manifold was 3K from VW add in the shop supplies and labour and it does not take much to write the car off. if the repairs are done correctly there is no reason it is something to stay away from. Cars that are not safely repairable or flood damaged get a unrepairable status and can only be used for parrs and never registered again.

I passed it up because too many things weren't lining up. That and my B5 is probably one of the cleanest in Calgary appearance and title wise, I'd only take a car for trade that had a similar history to it.
