  • BMW M4 Coupe Concept

BMW has officially unveiled the Concept M4 Coupe, ahead of its debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

Designed to preview the upcoming production model, the concept expresses the "BMW M philosophy in ideal form."

The company didn't have much to say about the model, but it features a stylish exterior with an aggressive front bumper and a power dome hood. The car also has ventilated front fenders, an integrated trunk lid spoiler and bespoke 20-inch wheels with a two-tone finish. There's also a number of carbon fiber reinforced plastic components including the front splitter, roof and rear diffuser.

BMW is keeping a tight lid on specifications but hinted the "high performance" engine offers "immense power." That's pretty vague but previous reports have indicated the model will use a twin-turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that produces approximately 450 bhp (335 kW) and 550 Nm (405 lb-ft) of torque.

According to BMW M GmbH Chairman Dr. Friedrich Nitschke, “The BMW Concept M4 Coupe reflects the BMW M philosophy in ideal form: It combines motor racing genes and unrestricted everyday suitability in a highly emotional overall concept." He added, "For four generations, the BMW M3 has put motor racing on the road and the BMW Concept M4 Coupe consistently continues to pursue this fundamental idea."

i like the front vents and rear

funny so i thought all the 335,etc were a twin turbo v6 but i guess thats the older n54 motor the new n55 is a single turbo v6 instead.

          Are the N54 and N55 motors a V6 or an I6?

Twin turbo N series made better power than then single (once tuned). Stock they are pretty much the same.

i agree with GINCH. i mean it's still a hot car, i guess, but the heritage is gone. i thought even #'d cars were supposed to be 4 doors and odd, the coupes? kinda hard to be enviromentally friendly, as they claim, when they make a model for all 7 billion of us too. their 80's and 90's will forever remain their best years. my e28 has just about every power option you can get on a modern car and is pure BMW, imo. 2002tii and e30 also fall into that category for me. iconic, recognizable driving machines that were years ahead. e46m3 is the newest i would consider, as well as e39, for the 5 series. hate to say it, but i say wow, way more times to a KIA than a BMW these days lol
you probably don't like me because someone else said they didn't lol. <3

Feeling the exact same way. Always said I would take any old BMW over any old Audi, but any new Audi over any new BMW

                        Re: BMW M4 Coupe Concept

Well I admit I am a little bit disappointed by some of the styling cues that I had hoped would be a bit cleaner in the M. In particular the weird vent style for the front fenders as well as the unnecessarily complicated looking front and rear bumpers. I can't help but wonder if they sometimes build those things in just so that its easier to sell a facelift in 3 years time. But in person it may look a bit better.

I think photos put a lot of emphasis on body lines, especially these kinds of photos with obviously emphasized shadows and weird lighting or even photoshop touchups. All the angles are taken from floor height so you really see the lower body accents. But in person you are going to feel more presence from things like the width of the car, stance, and the power bulge on the hood, it is going to be pretty cool to stand next to it.

Specifications have not yet been announced, I think it will be a unique motor with maybe a shared block, not just a tweaked 135 engine!

From the rumors I have read it will be a lot lighter than the 4 series coupes and even though they are using a 3.0L turbo the internals are significantly changed compared to the engine on the 1/335. I have read 8200 redline rumors. Couple that with a sportier suspension and one of the LAST fast cars to come with a manual gearbox... I am not sure what other cars you can compare this to. For less money than a totally stripped base 991 you will get a similar or better interior, far better engine, more technology, and hopefully very fun handling.

I think haters on the turbo 6 just don't know how fun a turbo 6 can be, get into a Porsche to appreciate how fun a 6 can be. The torque is going to be phenomenal on this car and in terms of fun factor it's going to put a big smile on your face. I you think about tuning it, I am sure 500hp/500ftlbs with a flash could be in reach. For the price of an M3 getting a 500hp-capable turbocharged engine is insane.

You can't even compare this with an Audi in my opinion, because Audi simply doesn't offer a similar vehicle. The combination of an engine at this level with a manual gearbox and reduced weight in a luxury coupe. The a5 platform is too heavy, RS5 has no manual option... S5 can't compete. The R8 is twice the price, The TT-RS is the closest but I think a very different car.

Pretty stoked that it looks like maybe Phoenix Yellow is back :P

This m car actually looks great! Not liking the color and wheels though. 135 motor sounds good enough to have some fun.
