  • Well... Back too it already, may need help

So recently I've accidentally been pushing 25PSI of boost through my A4 stock block... This is probably not good, I've stopped as I don't need a blown motor, but I am buying a spare and building it up so I can play with my car to its full ability.

Now I've never rebuilt an engine before... I am looking for someone in Calgary who has built an AEB and can maybe help me out if I get lost. I will pay in beer... Or money, if thats your thing. I have some new rods, bearings, valves, springs, retainers and the like picked out and will hopefully be starting the block after I pick it up Friday.

I am also wondering... Is there anyone here that would rent a fella a hoist for when it comes to swapping the engine? I have a garage, I have tools, hell I even have a tranny jack... But no hoist!

    A) buy a snap-on digital torque wrench.

        B) buy a bentley repair manual
        C) use clearances based on your specific engine components, not OEM spec equipment

There goes over $1000 lol. Maybe borrow one from a buddy that is a mechanic, or ask him to come over and help you torque the head studs.

I've got a week before I buy the block, probably 2 weeks before all parts land at my door and work can begin, I will watch those and the 1.8T rod changing instructions I found.

Hopefully my stock motor doesnt go boom before...

Don't need a snap on digital torque wrench..
Buy plastiguage and measure bearing clearances. Most likely just standard.
Mark each piston to each cylinder but don't scratch or punch the piston to mark them or you create hot spots
Clean carbon out of pistons(break small piston ring in half to clean ring grooves)
It's really not a hard job to beef up the bottom end and depending on km you won't have to touch the top end. If I need valve guides I just leave that up to a machine shop.
Above all buy a bentley, like mentioned already.

Just tune it conservatively and it wont... Plenty of people run stock internals with a GT28 for years without any problems. Myself included.

Running a C2 Motorsports stage 5 tune... Which is supposed to only do 280hp...

I have a turbosmart boost controller to put in now and set to 16PSI, but I'd like to be able to safely push 23PSI or so.

How much boost were you pushing?

I ran around 25psi on my GTRS without issue.

Are you serious? That's over 300hp is it not? My buddy on Audizine is telling me "your motor is probably already done". So many conflicting answers...

Horsepower is not only dependent on boost.... Are we talking crank or wheel horsepower? I was probably making 260-280whp, with conservative timing...

I ran ~21-23 psi with a GT28rs on a stock AEB for many years... granted it was an APR tune and not super aggressive. One of the very few Stage 3+ that were released. I think the car is still running around Edmonton unless the person I sold it to ran it into the ground.
