I dipped about 1/4 of my hood today with matte black. Started out as a test but I like the look, it looks like a 3M rock chip protection that you see on newer cars only matte black. I started by sanding down some of the rock chips ( did not get pics). Found out the most of my hood is made of bondo. I started with 80grit then moved to 200 then 400. Then cleaned the area and began painting. I think I did about 6 layers it total trying to gauge how much I'd need to cover the larger chips. After the 6th layer some dirt blew in the garage and at least the last layer was dry so it did not stick to paint.

Not sure why you didnt do the whole hood in one shot? Are you not planning on doing the whole hood? You'll have a line where the two painted sections meet now if you do

This started as a test to see if the dip would cover the chips and to see how it looked with gloss black. If I do the whole hood I will remove what I did today and do it all in one shot. I just had a cupple cans of old dip sitting around and this was a way to use them.

Yea it did a great job. But I sanded them down as well before I painted.

Not really if you overlap where the line is when you spray the rest of the hood the new spray will liquefy the old and it will all blend together.

There are a whole bunch more layers, then you overlap, there is still more layers, you will see the lines.

Plastidiped my new valve cover today, I think it looks good. We will see if it holds up to the heat.

As for a update to the plastidiped wheels, I'm still gonna do it but I have them in storage in Calgary. I saw a BMW at work with the camo green dip on them, looked very good. That's what I'm gonna go with. For now I'm dipping other things lol.

Doubt the plastidip will last on the valve cover. Should have just used proper paint

its still on mine,holds up to the heat just fine. its rated at 600celcius.
