Take off your door car, drill hole, position, wire 2 wires to current puddle lights. Repeat for other side.

my way.

buy 2 used puddle lights from a parts car drill holes in them wire it to the original connection in the door.No need to take the door card off or drill holes in the door.

Most VW's don't have the light on the underside of the panel though.
