Re: Who's good with a multimeter?

    Turbos......

Agreed with not alternator, brand new battery should fire the car right up. Graeme is probably right or onceover.

Edit: Or you just simply didn't tighten the leads to the posts tight enough, I did that once on my RV.

Perhaps a defective battery? Maybe try taking the battery back and telling them the story. Hopefully you can walk out with a new working one and maybe that'll be your fix.
As mentioned, clean your terminals and tighten em down snug.

^^^With this, at the very least they will load test your battery leaving you with certainty as to whether the battery is good or not.

Re: Who's good with a multimeter?

cleaned terminals, checked the other wires from positive lead...
jumped car and it drove fine, took it for a 2 hour jaunt out to exshaw and back on the highway to charge the battery.

              drove great, no issues.

              get home, park it.
              turn off

go to restart.....dash lights up, as soon as you try to crank you get the weird clicking and nothing.

              somethings up.

soo... car turns on if you boost it but wont if you start it just off the battery??

i would get said battery loaded tested... as stated above sounds like a faulty battery

Re: Who's good with a multimeter?

Hard to say. It is deff a connection issue either with the battery or other wiring.

On another note I would not recommend to jump start a car. Especially one with lots of electrical components. Have seen lots of mishaps.

Another issue is the alternator will never charge your battery. It is designed to maintain it. Trying to charge the battery with the alternator will put extra strain on it and can cause multiple other issues.

                        Agreed.

As for jump starting, you are fine, but make sure the key is not in the ignition and DEFINITELY not on accessory! Have seen a few ECU's fried by hooking up the cables with keys in the ignition.

It's probably a bad ground your alternator is fine if it drives. Follow your negative wire to where it bolts to the frame

When this happened with my coupe I thought I was chasing a faulty starter. Turned out it was the brushes were worn down and it'd only get full juice at high revs, when the arc could cover the increased gap. Worth a look, at least.

The alternator does charge your battery. A way to test that is take a multi meter set it to Dc volts and right across your battery.... Without running should be about 12v, anything lower then 9v and your starter won't turn over. When running it will read 13v to 14v that means your alternator is working.
