Audi has introduced the 2014 RS7 Sportback at NAIAS in Detroit which is set to tackle the BMW M6 GranCoupe.
It seems our speculation about the RS7 was spot on as the Ingolstadt firm has added a new member to its RS lineup which is set to grow once again later on this year with the possible addition of the RS Q3.
Getting back to the RS7 Sportback, it borrows the twin-turbo V8 4.0-liter gasoline engine of the RS6 Avant with 560 HP (412 kW) and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque. The power unit is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission sending the power to the quattro AWD system. Cylinder on demand is available for this engine and helps the RS7 Sportback return 24 mpg US (28.8 mpg UK or 9.8 liters / 100 km).
It can do the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) run in 3.9 seconds before reaching an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). Opt for the Dynamic Package and the top speed is increased to 174 mph (280 km/h). If this isn't enough, the Dynamic Plus Package lifts top speed to 190 mph (305 km/h).
Customers have the possibility to opt for either an adaptive air suspension (lowering the car by 0.8 inches) or a sport suspension plus with dynamic ride control. As standard, the 2014 Audi RS7 Sportback comes with 20-inch, seven twin-spoke forged wheels but it can be optionally fitted with 21-inch wheels available in three designs. For more money it can get 16.5-inch carbon ceramic anthracite grey disc brakes.
Inside it boasts a three-spoke, flat-bottomed steering wheel wrapped in leather, white scales and red needles on black-faced gauges, along with a lap timer and boost pressure and oil temperature gauges. There's also a carbon trim and the choice of black Alcantara / leather sport seats or all-leather.
