i wondering if anyone else has noticed a decrease in fuel mileage this winter. i normally get around 430-450 befor the fuel light comes on. now im getting around 350 ish some times even lower. i dont let my car sit and warm up and i dont get in to boost cause weather and roads suck. i have also noticed the same in my 2007 jeep 3.7L. no heavy foot, just normal driving mix 50 50 hwy city.

Same here...but maybe because with this ice and snow on the ground I love pulling away from lights like a bat outta hell. Although I went from 550 a tank to just shy of 500.-Stefan- '02 S6 Atlas Grey

Re: Bad fuel mileage (B5 S4)
Run lower octane, at least than you can offset the loss in mileage with the price. If you aren't in boost, and the ambient temp is way lower you won't need the added octane that would normally be required.GT3071R and more...

Re: Bad fuel mileage (B5 S4)
I, personally, haven't seen any discernible change. Out of my last 5 fill-ups, only one was above my 12.31 Average. Although I granny her most of the time.--

Re: Bad fuel mileage (B5 S4)
My mileage is always worse in the winter. Right now I'm averaging anywhere from 9-10L/100km. There haven't been any really warm days since we did my tune, but if it's closer to 0, then I get about 8.5L/100kmScott

Re: Bad fuel mileage (B5 S4)
The fuel milage sucks because of the increased time the vehicle takes to warm the engine up from -10 and colder to operating temperature as opposed to the engine being 30+ degrees hotter in the summer. Time how long your vehicle sits at high idle in the winter upon first startup, it's about 10-15 seconds in summer unless it has sat. It can sit at high idle for 45-1 min or more if it is -10 or colder and it is parked outside. Once it drops to low idle there is still lots of fuel enrichment trying to get the engine up to operating temperature. Never mind how cold that air is hitting the rad when you are driving in -10, the car is always trying to get to its optimum operating temperature at the expense of fuel economy. This is typical with every modern vehicle, my S4's economy gets flushed down the toilet in the winter and my truck hits single digit MPG's. It sucks but it is what it is. The other thing too is some gas stations will bump up the ethanol content in thier 'winter' gas and vehicles '01 and older just don't like the taste of it which also hurts the fuel consumption during winter months.
