B5 S4 speaker sounds blown when cold

The speaker in my drivers door (4" ?) sounds blown, but only when it is cold outside (below freezing). I thnk it started last winter when some snow fell in my door when I opened my window. Then, it was fine and clear all summer. Now that it is cold again, it sounds blown.

Thoughts?

Nobody has run across this before? Has anyone replaced the factory Bose speakers in their S4 without replacing the amp, etc? I know there are DIY's around, but want to hear from local people.

This started happening to my front ones last year, but haven't bothered with it yet. Will probably look at doing something closer to summer. No help, sorry.

3.5" in the doors if I remember. 4" fit, can't help you with the amp part. I replaced my entire system with Morel components and PPI amplifiers etc.

We're you able to use the existing wires, or was it a re-run for everything?

I didn't reuse anything. But I completely changed everything in the car. New amp sub speakers etc.



Although new speakers should work with the exsisting stuff, if I remember correctly the bose stuff runs on a different ohm then regular automotive speakers.

can we get a GB going for some "plug and play" replacement front door speakers?
mine have the same problem you are describing, i think they're just getting old.

i dont want to go through the hassle of redoing all my crap, just want speakers that work and dont sound blown.
did some audizine research and the ones they recommended are discontinued now so i odnt know the best stuff to use.

I just replaced my fronts with some Focal IS 130's. Great sound, easy installation

$240, not a direct plug and play, but I have never done a speaker install before and it took me a total of 1.5-1.75hrs

Those will be overpriced beyond belief. The Focals Ryan suggested will outshine the Bose speakers in every dimension.

Don't they need to be 2ohm? I googled the Focals and they appear to be 4ohm. An issue, or am I just way too confused?
