  • Heard of e-Quattro?

Yes, they are talking about converting the rear drive to an electric motor. So sounds like the beloved quattro is going to be an abomination.

Anyway, saw an article about it from the link that was posted about the a4 allroad.

Makes me wonder if the "e-hybrid" badge on the panamera will be the same thing (although it doesn't look like it from the rendering posted).

    Discuss.

yea on the b9s jason.. some sort of electric driven rear daffy.. not sure tho if its standard or not..

i highly doubt they'll ditch fully mechanical quattro for this.. like the new sports diff is a TON Of goodness.. we'll see i suppose.. b9s are about 1.5 years away for us i think.. b9s hit europe in like 6-9 months i think tho

the b9 a4 is supposed to be partial hybrid too just like the new 3 series too (review of the new hybrid 3 series in the latest european car mag)

      Re: Heard of e-Quattro?

Read this earlier in the week, I think it will just be an option/trim level not a total replacement of traditional Quattto at least not yet.

The German automaker Audi has confirmed this week that by 2020 all of the models in the lineup will have an e-tron variant. By “e-tron” Audi refers to those cars that are capable of traveling long distances while using only electric power.

If they will reach this objective, Audi predicts that these e-tron cars will be sold in more than 100,000 units. For now, they only have a bunch of prototypes conducting tests in different parts of the world. These upcoming production models will be available with various electric drive technologies, such as battery-powered EVs and extended-range vehicles.

The first in the e-tron production model series is going to be the R8 e-tron which will go on sale later on this year. It has two electric motors that generate 308 hp (230 kW) and 605 lb-ft (820 Nm) of torque. These are powered by a 49 kWh lithium-ion battery that allows the vehicle to do the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in 4.6 seconds, before hitting an electronically limited top speed of 124 mph (200 km/h). The R8 e-tron promises to provide a range of up to 134 miles (215 km).

Shouldn't be a surprise, really. As a company they seem more driven to incorporate racing-bred technology than any other manufacturer. Look at Le Mans, see Audi's future.

Yea, I heard about them doing testing on the electric R8 and how they are trying to create sound effects for the car as it's completely silent and people have found it hard to adjust.

It just seems really odd they would just make the rear diff electric as opposed to combining the drivetrain. Electric is really starting to get interesting. Saw the Fisker downtown and it's stunning!!

Saves on mass and drivetrain loss with an electric rear diff.
