  • Tire wear question

So for those that saw my FB yesterday I blew a tire on the highway yesterday morning.

I have inner wear on the front tires from being lowered.. when i did my CO's and new control arms i got the car aligned of course from the dealer even.

my front camber up front is -3.0 on each side which is fine but i think the TOE is off which is causing the inner wear.

time for adjustable upper control arms?

    anyone else lowered get this?

my tire looks to have come apart on the wear spot.. i'll post a picture tonight when i get home.. but i'm pretty sure the other front is going to do it soon now too..

well i can't drive the car until i get 2 new front tires anyways as i'm not a fan of 3 19s and a stock 17 lol

    Re: Tire wear question

Dude, i hear you but from the rear wheels. I did a 2,000 KM drive and the rear tire wear is ridiculous. I just put new tires on the same day of my drive and now they're totally done. :( Tires lasted 48 hours haha

      Re: Tire wear question

The rear toe adjustment bolt on the B5's normally gets jacked up and gives you some horrible wear on the inside rears you can usually tell when you go over a quick bump while driving the back end will do a little dart left or right when you come down. I have had this happen probably 3-5 times on the A4 either a siezed or broken toe bolt never had an issue with the S4 but that is probably because it was not winter driven.

That's just camber wear, if its your toe you will get feathering along the inside of tire. It looks pretty flat.

This is feathering, looking at the tire from the side. Its pretty obvious when you run your hand over the tread. Only happens when the toe is out and makes the tire ride like a tank track. Also 3 degrees is quite a bit of camber.

We get a ton of BMW 3 series in with the exact same wear as your tire, that camber is a killer. Next to new tire but the inside of the tire is on belts.

                        Re: Tire wear question

yea i know :( cool so really camber wear.. bah tires only lasted 2 seasons.. but i did rotate them last summer

alex text me about them or i'll call chad or even order them from tirerack

i have sumitomo htz3's cheapy but decent tires for me

i'm sure i can run different tires up front than rear but i don't want them to be too off.. not a fan of buying an entire new set

maybe i'll put the 19" rotis on the allroad and pickup some new 18s instead

Different tread patterns won't matter so much (if slightly ghetto) but the depth should be within a 1/16" -- 2-/16" front to rear.
