Audi has revealed the first details, images and all access videos of the facelifted 2013 Audi R8 range. The sports car has been on the receiving end of some subtle styling updates and a few technical modifications under the skin. There has also been the introduction of a new range topping V10 Plus model that is exclusively available as a coupe.
The minimal exterior updates include a modified front fascia featuring a new front bumper and single-frame grille while the previously optional LED headlights are now standard on all models.
One of the more striking updates is the introduction of the brand new 7-speed S tronic transmission system which replaces the exsiting six-speed R-Tronic. It features two multi-plate clutches that serve two mutually independent sub-transmissions allowing minimal delay between gear changes. The 7-speed S Tronic is optionally available on the V8 models whereas the V10 gets it as standard.
The new transmission works in conjunction with the new upgraded V8 and V10 units and gives a 0-100kph(62mph) acceleration boost of around 0.3 seconds over the standard 6-speed manual option.
The 4.2-liter FSI V8 engine sees its power output boosted to 430PS (316kW/424hp) and 430Nm (317.15 lb-ft) of torque. Using the optional S Tronic transmission, the V8 unit enables the coupe to accelerate from 0-100kph (62mph) in 4.3 seconds while the spyder acheives the same feat in 4.6 seconds. Both variants are capable of reaching a top speed of 302 kph (187.65 mph).
The 5.2-liter FSI V10 unit will now be available in a choice of two outputs. The base level model produces 525PS (386kW/518hp) and 530Nm (390.91lb-ft) of torque while the new range topping "Plus" model gets a nice bump to 550PS (404kW/542hp) and 540Nm of torque .
The halo model is capable of accelerating from 100kph(62mph) in just 3.5 seconds vefore reaching a top speed of 317kph(197mph) while the standard V10 is just 0.1 seconds and 4kph(3mph) shy of these figures. The Audi R8 V10 Spyder meanwhile boasts an acceleration figure of 3.8 seconds before hitting top velocity at 311kph(193mph).
The new 2013 Audi R8 facelift range will arrive in European dealerships before the end of the year. Pricing for base models will start at €113,500 for the coupe and €124,800 for the Spyder while the respective V10 models will start at €154,600 and €165,900. The range topping R8 V10 Plus will set customers back €173,200.
