got the AR took in today for a repaint of both front doors due to rust under the door blades (weak)

anyways i got it home and decided to try and remove both blades to see if i can see how bad the damage is and i can even do some prep work myself

passenger side is OK and easy to fix

driver side is the really bad side.. i can't even get the door blade off.. 2 screws (one front/rear) plus 4 torxes in the middle

i can pull it out about oh 1/8" if that.. then i took a rubber mallet/cloth and hit it back in/ pull out/bash in/out to try and loosen it

i went and then sprayed liquid wrench into the crevice to it'll eat the rust away if anything is stuck there

ugh.. any other ideas to get it out? if the rust is really bad then i'm buying a new door from ebay/shokan and simply having it painted to match

yea i'll let the PB sit overnight.. its all the built up **** underneath.. I'm going to fix this stupid design good when i get it repainted up..

i'll fight it again tomorrow.. really if i can get the 'bad' side off i know if i need to buy a door or not (which may suck but honestly cheaper in the long run) or start grinding/sanding the **** out of the rush and prep it myself.

Doesn't Audi have a 10 year rust warrantee? Get them to fix it.

oh kris.. sorry to say this issue happens on really any audi from oh 2002+

a4,s4s with door blades, a6s allroads, a8!!! happens to them all .. Graemes old allroad has this issue too.. seen a6s downtown with this.. a last gen a8 with it!!! fucking stupid design

and yes audi has a rust warranty ONLY if the rust goes RIGHT through.. not surface rust..

whats that colin? fill the spot in flat? i like the look of the blades.. all i'm having done is sand the rusty spots down and then respray and get Jeff to do some fancy 3m'ing the lower parts of the doors and put the blades back on.. easy enough

i think i'm calling audi tomorrow about the driver door.. its rusted through on one spot..here are some pics of the damage.. the passenger door is 80% better than this side. just small surface rust (easy to sand out and repaint)

I've had my A4 since new (240,000kms now) and after seeing the B5's rust I pull mine off every 3 months and scrub the **** out of everything, wax it and re-assemble. It is a terrible design, but really the only thing you can do is try to keep the salt out.

That being said, let us know what Audi says about the warranty, would be interesting to know.

The Passat started to bubble on the roof of all places, the day after I saw the bubble I threw it up on kijiji. Be happy it's just the doors, they are easily replaced.

yea i'll call audi about it tomorrow

the hard part is since that one spot has the crack spot.. really the inside is probably **** now.. so i probably need a new door then.. i can get a new door online for like 200-500 it seems and then just swap the door panel,guts,window,etc pain in the ass job..
