  • would you buy a used Audi Q7?

I'm looking for some advice on buying a used Audi Q7, probably a 2007. Of course online you always see rants and raves but I'd prefer to know from enthusiasts how the Q7 holds up. My mother has a Q5 that have been fantastic...but she only puts 5000km a YEAR on it.

    Any advice would be great

'07 was a first year model on a first attempt on an SUV from Audi, take that for what it is. Yes I k now the whole "It's just a Touareg underneath" argument is out there, but it is still different in some very Audi ways. Neither engine aged very well, they both suffer from carbon build up on the valves. Most repairs are major at this point in thier lives. Service history? That book should be about 6 inches thick at this point to even be considered for purchase in my eyes. Most people cringed at the cost of service on these trucks as they are costly. They eat tires and brakes like they are free and neither is cheap on Q7's. The up side is they are very nice trucks to drive.

    Oh and...
No you can't add LED's to them easily.
No you can't add NAV cheaply.
No you can't add AMI easily or cheaply.
No you can't add Bluetooth at all.

All in all a well kept one will treat you great a poorly kept one will decimate your wallet. I'd go 4.2 the 3.6 is a little underpowered for the vehicle, so you needed to wring the **** out of it to get it going.

If you are able get someone who works at an Audi dealership to the VIN on any potential purchase. If you know one...

IMO you get very little if anything over a Touareg and you will probably pay more.

If you are in or near the price range to buy a used Cayenne, it will also destroy the Q7.

          what kris said is true..

not sure how well the interior on the NEW t-regs are compared to that of the Q7 as the Q7 is very well done the aluminum and proper leather in the s-line anyways

the new t-regs get the fancy audi led headlights too.. just not as nice motors

Is the q7 built on the same frame as the touareg / cayenne? When I drove one it seemed way bigger then when I drove the other 2

Though someone shopping a Q7 may not cross shop a Tuareg/cayenne if size matters.

Touareg is pretty big... Cayenne is smaller than both

great feedback guys, I think the later year Audi's, about 2010 on wards are just miles ahead of the older ones, especially with the 3.0T engine, refinements on the interiors and exteriors, but the prices also reflect that too of course.

in any case, how about this question then, what 7 seater do you think is better then the Q7? I'm searching for a larger vehicle that still has some "lux' factor to it

All are on the same platform. I know they share suspension components as we have used Porsche parts to try and cure issues on Q7's in the past, as they can be a little more beefy. We have also used VW parts during back orders on them. Same offset on wheels and they have the same 5x130 bolt pattern and they also use the same hubs and bearings. There are rings, shields and VW stamps all over the three of them Sheet metal, glass, some electrics and Engines in the porsche are the only real differences. Slight size differences like front and rear over hangs ect, I am pretty sure Q7 is longer total by 10" because it is the only one that has a third row of seating.

Well I am typically a devote German car guy and I just bought a new Durango R/T for our seven passenger needs. I really like it; it rides and drives very very well for a large vehicle. This is largely due to the platform which it shares with the Mercedes ML/GL. It is (in my opinion) very nice inside and has a big assed Hemi V8. Apparently the V6 is actually pretty good too and gets slightly better mileage. I could not get the V6 because I wanted the R/T (lowered by about 1", different dampers and springs, etc.)

The Durango may seem like a way-out suggestion but have a look. I think it’s pretty sweet looking too for a SUV (Q7, not so much).

pretty interesting driveway with the S4 and a Dodge! I must admit that the Domestics have really improved on their wares since the bailout days. that R/T is pretty awesome. I looked at a QX56(??) Infiniti and came away wondering who designed that "rhino" looking thing

Yes the ML550 has 402hp and the ML350 has 302hp, there is also a ML350 Bluetec diesel. You also pay about $18K for the upgrade from the 350 to the 550 but I am sure you get more than just the engine.

Definitely if you can get into a MB then I would go that way for a 7 seater... but $$$.

X5 would be a choice as well as the Touareg.

Not sure what else is out there at that size. I would buy an older euro before a newer domestic any day.
