  • B6 A4 Ipod Auxilary Adapter or new head unit

    Hey,

I've got the Bose factory in dash 6 disk changer and want to add an ipod or auxiliary input. Just wondering if anyone has done this or knows a place where to get it done and what the result was.
I found this site where you can get the parts.
    http://enfigcarstereo.com/IPOD_AUDI_...2005_2006.html

I thought about just putting a new head unit in that would support that but the guy at Visions said because its a Bose factory unit they'd have to by pass the Bose amp and rewire all the speakers plus i'd need another amp. He said i'd be looking at about $800 and up.

Anyway I'd like to hear any thoughts or experiences with installing an adapter or replacing the unit.

    Cheers

The dice one is nice. The guy at visions is a retard though there are wiring harnesses that make an aftermaket head unit plug and play, but I still wouldnt get one because it will never look as good as OEM and there is no way to connect to the display in the dash.

Another option is just to use a tape deck to 3.5mm jack. I used one in conjunction with the Blackberry bluetooth stereo gateway for a long time before upgrading to an RNS-E

And why do links show up as regular text? Thats retarded. I linked "Blackberry bluetooth stereo gateway" to an amazon site and you couldnt even see it

I figured there must be harnesses for that. I was in Visions getting something else so I figured I would inquire about it.

I think i'm going to look at also upgrading with a factory one. Anyone know where to get one for a decent price?

I was going to get a DICE unit when I had my B6, for what it's worth.

Best thing to do is look around for one to pop up on the classifieds (vortex, audizine, audifans, eurodrivers, etc) or try eBay.

Other decent alternative is, as previously mentioned, the tape-deck adapter. Is what I used, for a surprisingly long time for a temporary/stop-gap solution, and only costs about $20. Say what you will about tapes, but it provides a very good sound (especially compared to more expensive radio adapters).

Agreed with the audio sounding really good from the tape deck. I tucked my wires down under the radio and along the side of the hvac controls into the ashtray. Could barely tell it was there

Nice... I ran with the wires exposed because it was only supposed to be a temporary fix. But one thing led to another... and it sounded good... and transferred directly to the Cq... so why bother? haha

                I used the Belkin, FWIW.

Re: B6 A4 Ipod Auxilary Adapter or new head unit

As per onceover's suggestion, I got a Dice for my A3. Unfortunately mine hasn't work properly since I got it on Dec 14th. I can plug my iPod in and it'll play the music fine but I can't control my iPod through the deck or steering wheel like the description has stated. I've been in contact with Dice since and they've told me to wait a few weeks for some software update.

Just as an FYI and hopefully you won't have to go through the same think if you decide to go with a Dice unit.

I've just ordered one for my car. As far as I know updates for iOS5 are what is needed. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm running the Dice (with RNS-E though) and overall it's pretty nice. It'll glitch here and there switching between SAT and iPod modes and I'll have to unplug/replug my phone, but otherwise it's been solid. I routed the cable to the little cubby under the arm rest, so you can't even see the cord/phone.

I got mine in September and it's worked with iOS 5 no problem.
