  • bleeding heater core on the allroad

i had the timing belt done on the allroad before our trip and the heater started blowing cold air.. i know there is just a bubble in the core from the TB job.. i pulled the top hose off the heater core in the engine by tonight and no coolant will come out.. i put the car heater on high and full fan and couldn't get anything out
so i tried to shop vac the line to pull the air out and it would pull coolant but not FLOW coolant..

    wtf??!? wifey is getting pissed

or am i supposed to have it running but keep the top hose 1/2 one with the hose visible so it slowly bleeds that way? that way it stays pressured up and not just wide open.. i thought if it was open it would just push it out eventually

    hrmmmmmm

In the passat theres a bleeder hole in the hose. You pull the hose halfway off so air can escape from the hole then rev the car up so that there is more pressure in the system and you will see coolant spray out the hole, run out and put the hose all the way on and you should be good to go.

yea 2.7 has 2 bleed spots.. up front one leaks just fine with no air.. its trapped in the stupid heater core.. i was reading to drive the car on ramps to have the coolant flow down back towards the core.. i'll fight with it tomorrow night.. i hope its not cold tomorrow or it'll SUCk driving lol

Like colin said if its anything like a passat its a pain in the ass but thats how you do it on these cars. You might want to consider flushing the actual core itself, never know it could be a plugged core now.

Flushing it involves hooking up a garden hose and forcing water through the system. Probably a write up for you somewhere on an audi forum

I was talking to the guys at CAW and they hooked up their parts washer to the core and let it run through for a couple hours and it worked like a charm.

yep thats what I did to my car. Just pick up some hose that fits, an adaptor to screw onto the hose and let it go. I only did it for 5 min and the crap that was in there was disgusting.

i highly doubt that an air bubble will stay in your car's cooling system for that length of time. you also seem to have answered your question with your post. i would say that it is plugged. fill the core with a non caustic cleaner and let it soak for a while. blast it out. it might work, it might not, it might work for a short period of time also, but most likely, you need a new heater core.

Then you dont know these cars, an air bubble will sit in there indefinitely until you bleed it.

If you need it done, talk to george, he flushed the passat and it worked like a charm for about a month, after that we found out we needed a new heater core.
