Wiper Stalk

My daughter yanked on my wiper stalk and snapped it off :( . Does anyone know if I can change it out by simply taking off the trim around the steering column or do I need to take off the steering wheel to do it? Do i even have to take the steering wheel off to get the trim around the column off?

When I was parting a car out, i believe i remember it coming out as a whole unit. Steering wheel must come off. But someone may correct me.

On mk4's and b5 passats you need to take the steering wheel off, I'm assuming it's the same....
