Colin's never been to the ocean before, so we decided to break in the S4 with a proper road trip to Vancouver Island. Of course, on the morning of departure his work calls and says he has to fly out a day early. Well, 4 days instead of 5 is enough, so let's go for it!
Everything was going fine, but we seemed to need a lot of methanol...
Mount Robson provided a nice opportunity to stretch the legs and grab a quick photo shoot:
Being in BC means 'bring cash' and no surprise when premium fuel costs $1.499/L!!
Not too long after we got into the good stuff the car, now named the Princess4, began boosting to 30psi!!??! As a result, the fun times in boost stopped and had to drive nicely lest something break catastrophically so far away from home. Tough to not get moving quick when you're skulking downtown around Hastings late:
Next day we strike out for the Island, and the rain really begins in earnest. Weather forecast is for 20mm-30mm in the next 24 hours. Next day calls for 25mm-35mm, so hope these Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec are up to the task!
Of course they are, and we make it up and down the twisty Island highway between Port Alberni and Ucluelet/Tofino at an average of 40 km/h over the posted sign in the curves without breaking a sweat! Off the ferry in Naniamo at 15:00 we were at our hotel in Victoria by 00:40 after a quick loop in Tofino, photo op at Long Beach, and pints of Phoenix Gold Lager on tap & a fine fresh fish meal at the Black Rock Resort in Ucluelet.
No time to dawdle now, Colin's work finally sent his itinerary and he had to fly out another day earlier, meaning it was time to get moving! Though we did take a quick walk around Cathedral Grove, and a gratuitous photo op:
We came back through Victoria and made great time even just at or near the speed limit, gaining some impressive fuel economy... 13h15m from Vancouver to Edmonton. From Golden to Edmonton on one tank of Chevron 94 octane! Whilst in BC, we observed an average mileage (all mountains) of just over 500km/tank.
