I hope to have it back together finished in spring. As soon as I get the tb kit in I'm starting on making an exhaust manifold then turbos, fueling , then clutch.

Alright... So I installed the new water pump and was getting ready for the timing belt. I installed the tensioner, idler pulley and tensioner pulley.



The problem lies with the belt lenght, I knew the 2.7 belt would be too short because now I have two cam gears per head. But the 3.0 belt is also too short by like about an inch.



I tried to see if the hydraulic tensioner was too high up but that did not pull the pulley back far enough to get the belt on. Right now I am trying to swap the front crank flange from the 3.0 liter, and if that doesn't work I'm planning on getting a longer belt.

I wonder if the belt from the A8 4.2 32 Valve (ABZ) would be long enough does anyone know the lenght of it.

No that didn't work. I did find a belt that would work SuperTorque GoodYear Timing Belt 300.S8M.2272 just don't know where to find one.

I'm looking into smaller pulleys from a 1.8 liter anyone have some used one.

So I had to grind off a little off the head to make the thermostat piping fix, it was where that bracket was from the 3.0 liter idler tensioner.



Then I trimmed the top part of the water pump so the belt wouldn't rub on it.

Do you have your turbos on hand yet? IIRC this is about when you start making your manifolds/exhaust?

Yeah I just picked up some new cam adjuster gaskets and I'll start assembling the heads soon.

wow another hick up... turns out that my rear driver side cam cover has gone missing somewhere between taking my heads to fast engines and now. I ended up ordering a new one already. The passenger side I had to trim a little to bolt on because the thermostat piping was interfering with it.
