Need to find a replacement B6 1.8T engine

Friend of mine (girl) managed to grenade her engine driving home from Vancouver yesterday.
I think she said she was using a 5w30 oil and given the temps yesterday it was likely too thin. She assumed when the oil buzzer came on it meant it was too low rather than oil pressure was too low and simply threw more in.

She needs to have it replaced and is looking for a full engine + turbo.

Where is the best place to find one?

hrmm check with george maybe or go to Shokan online and check with them.. not sure about $$ on shipping a full motor tho

Hmm, I run 5w30 and never had a problem.

it was either too low or too thin.
generally when the buzzer goes off it means something is up.

that or the pump has failed

More likely the oil pump failed. I went through a similar issue in the US and my head was toast.

After that I ran 5w-30 on my 1.8t with great success.

If the bottom end is fubar I have a good replacement, though it'd need some pistons :P

if you take it out ec machine does full rebuilds

Pulling a motor and putting a used one in is far less expensive and requires much less downtime.

Yes they can be, given proper preventative maintenance. Otherwise stuff will fail, just like any other car.

I think Marco was inferring that by swapping out the motor for one with unknown issues vs. a rebuild there would be a new learning curve to consider.
