    Re: BMW oil change interval

For me I am concerned about time as I really don't put that many km's on my car, so if I wait till 15,000kms for the first oil change that could be closer to 2 years after I bought it as I am currently at 13,XXXkms. Thus I have just been changing it every 6 months or so just to be safe, could be overkill but is it worth messing with for an extra $150 a year or so???

I guess that's my point - nobody is very sure of the whole thing. I don't see it that unreasonable that new engines and new oil could lead to an improvement in oil change intervals. I mean, 5000km was standard in the 60's and earlier. Better alloys, manufacturing tolerances, lubrication and filtration exist now, so why is it that most of us change oil sooner (myself included) than the spec'd interval, other that a bad feeling because we are used to the 5-8000km change range that has been around as long as cars have?
