BMW free oil change schedule is every 15k. From reading forums looks like other cars might have similar OCI. Do you guys do one in between the recommended schedule?

Re: BMW oil change interval
geeze, my TDI is 16000km... thought that was decent. From what I understand though, if you can achieve good oil filtration, synth oil is good to go for quite some time. I'd expect BMW does their homework, and that there is no point changing early unless you are really pushing the car beyond "average" driving. My old car was mildly modded (chip and larger injectors), so I always did it a little early for good measure as the car was working harder than it was spec'd for.Stefan

Re: BMW oil change interval
If you're planning on keeping it, up the interval. The easiest way to prevent future engine problems is maintaining the lubrication system. My car is 16,000 as per Audi, but I go 8000km with Amsoil. Cheap insurance.

Re: BMW oil change interval
I'm pretty sure this has been argued before, but is there a point to changing early, or is it just that most guys are not comfortable with the idea that their old car had a 5000km change interval, and the new one is 16000km+, and it just doesn't feel right? If you tested the synth oil in one of these cars after 5-8k km, I would think it would indicate the oil is still in good shape, no? I mean, if it makes a difference, ya, it's cheap insurance, but otherwise it just seems wasteful.Stefan
