  • New b5 S4 owner

Hello everyone. Just last week I picked up an 01 S4 with 89xxxkm on it from Calgary and I'm loving it! A little bit of work needs to be done to bring it up to snuff but that's beside the point. What I'm hear to ask about is tuning!

What I'd like done is a stage 1+ type kit. So software and I would upgrade the necessities like diverted valves and y-pipe and eventually put in rs4 intercoolers.

I'm at a cross roads as to what tuning software would give me the best bang for the buck. I don't have any tuning experience so a self tuner is out of the question. I've heard ppl being disappointed with APR tunes. My brother who is polishboy2010 on this site recommends the unitronic chip.

So what I'm asking is what company provides the best tune for a mainly stock car. Thanks in advance!

Welcome & congrats on your S4! Post some pics when you can.

I've got Unitronic and it's good... I would go with VAST if I were you though. Jordan, aka "The_Jerbal", can help you out with that. Keep us posted

For Stage 1 you wont be dissapointed with any of the majors... APR, AWE, VAST or EPL. If you do plan on going Stage 3 later on, I believe Vast or EPL will credit you some money towards that upgrade.
If you are ok with used, check out Audizine as there are usually quite a few loaded ECU's for sale for cheaper then it costs to have it done yourself.
Along those lines, if you ever plan on going stage 3, Id skip the RS4 I/C's and go with something a bit bigger. ER, AMD or AWE.

I may appear to be nice, but don't be fooled, I probably don't like you

Thanks for all the quick response everyone! I'm still as confused as I was when I first posted though. Let me clarify my future plans for the car

-turbo back exhaust(most likely fast intentions)
                -rs4 intercoolers
                -necessities(dv's and what not)

This car is a daily driver and needs to stay as reliable as possible while injecting some fun on occasion.

Forgot to mention, my rear springs are broken also. What is the most comfortable coil over kit?

                    Re: New b5 S4 owner

rear springs rot out and go to ****!

i have eibach coils which are really KW v2s with eibach springs.. the wifey can't tell the difference so thats a good thing

for ICs i have the RS4s.. they are good but you can do better if you are buying them brand new

pressure test it up and then see what you need as far as the MISC goes.

                      Re: New b5 S4 owner

i'm used to broken springs. My previous car, a 2000 Mercedes C230 Kompressor, had broken springs after one alberta winter(originally a BC car). i ended up replacing them with koni yellows and lowering springs and eibach sway front and rear which i really liked. i'm looking at either picking up KW V1's or ST coilovers depending on how much i want to spend and how long i'm looking at keeping the car.

toss up between saving about 500 bucks or splurging and getting a rust free shock and lifetime warranty.

oh have i mentioned, it is a daily driver and needs to reliable and fairly comfortable? haha... i know, once you go sport, you make compromises.
