  • Brake Help Please!

So, i had some 298mm alcon rear rotors, and ferrodo 2500 pads installed on my s4.
Recently, i noticed a shuddering from the rear brakes, under moderate to hard acceleration.
When i did a quick visual on the rear rotors, it appeared that only the outside of the rotor was coming in contact with the brake pad (the inside surface of both rear rotors looks untouched/scared)
Also, my e brake doesnt hold worth a damn.
The brake set up has less than 6000km on it.

I have the car with the mechanic right now, and he is saying there isnt anything wrong with the brakes, other than that the pads seem to be wearing unevenly.

Just looking for some other opinions? could my rear calipers be screwed?

Have the guy try lubricating the slide pins that the calipers ride on. That might do the trick.

Or you could just bring it down to me and I'll get it figured out for you.

My bet too is the slide pins and a new set of pads.

Chris has it at his shop in red deer. Says the slides are good, and the pads are next to brand new!
Just hoping I can figure this out an have it good to go before I get home.
I'm sure Chris can figure it out. But maybe someone has experienced something similar??

          Re: Brake Help Please!

That typically is caused by the caliper not sliding on the slides correctly, which prevents it from equalizing pressure on both sides, which results in one pad wearing more than the other.

            Re: Brake Help Please!

Yup, I had to break my slide pin free when this happened to me. Sounded like a shot gun went off when it finally broke loose. It's what caused uneven wear on my pads. But i never had any shudder problems.

Are the rotors thicker than the stock ones? maybe you need a spacer on your caliper to fit the alcons properly?

Did you upgrade the calipers at the same time?
Did the person who installed said components break them in properly?
Since your car is designed to brake more in the rear than the front you now have a problem.
Are you running dot 5? Any blueing on the rotors and are the pads glazed.

If I need it looked at again I'll let
u know Jordan. Just seems strange..

The innder surface of the rear rotors is sooo smooth and untouched...

Chris says the front rotors are warped?! But I don't know how this would cause a rear end shudder. And they are next to brand new still, and I haven't been on them very hard at all. They are fucking expensive to boot!

This only started recently, when I got it back the brakes were fine

Colin the noisy brakes issue (high pitched resonance) was there when we noticed the rearward clunk (loose driveshaft bolts) too.

                    Re: Brake Help Please!

the front rotors were replaced at the same time with new pads as well ( 328mm alcon , w/4 pot pistons, ferrodo 2500 pads)
as far as i know jordan did a proper install, and break in according to the stasis recommendation.
the rear rotors work with the stock calipers.

i figure PRY4SNO broke my brakes somehow....as they were fine before he drove it... hahah

Bah that's BS Colin and you know it... I distinctly remember you asking me WTF that noise was, don't be a homo cause you never bothered to deal with it until now. :P

And if one hard braking manoeuver from 140-40 wrecks your princess brakes than you got pwned in teh wallet big time!

If you were doing 140-40 braking and your back brakes weren't being utilized that might explain your warped from rotors....just putting that out there.

                          ^^

Check the inner pistons, they may be stuck.
