This has been intermittent since I got the engine back in. I dont know if its a by-product of old brittle wires and cold temps causing wires and their covers to crack causing shorts, or a failing part. Need some insight. It's getting dangerous, with the gravel and stuff braking without ABS gets very sketchy, and i've already got enough issues with my back, dont need a car accident added to the list.
The issue is something going crazy and all of a sudden I will get a brake pad sensor warning, the ESP turns off, and ABS and Brake start lighting up and I lose ABS. Once it's gone it will only come back if I turn the car off, and when I start it back up its a crap shoot whether the issue is still there.
The causes can be anything from starting it when the car is cold, to driving along and hitting a small bump. I can give it the beans and it might do it, it might not.
If there is a sufficient jolt to the car it seems to go off for sure, but sometimes I can drive for 2 days without it going off.
When I pulled the codes it said it was the brake pedal sensor. So today I replaced that part with a brand new one.
Drove it around for 15 minutes, nothing, drove the piss out of it, nothing. Then as i pulled out of the driveway of my place it went off again. Clearly that wasn't the cause.
I had an issue with my crank position sensor working in a similiar fashion, and we found the heat shield for it had cracked when I pulled the engine, and so sometimes it just would not work.
I'm having similiar issues with this and I'm wondering if its going to be a similiar solution.
Where should I be looking in the harness and engine bay for wiring that could be cracked or faulty? I have looked at the ABS module and theres nothing around it that I touched. The ABS module also doesn't seem like the culprit because when those start to go they go. When my ABS is working and this issue isn't occuring, its fantastic and very strong.
Any ideas?
