Oh yeah and btw have you got around to the A6's coilovers yet? Got some frontend work to do soon and that would be a good time to put the lowering springs in.
Pulled the Quattro DS yesterday, cleaned and repacked the CV's, no more clunking. Inter-cooler hoses wouldn't stay on, some t-bolts fixed that, found it was over filled by about 2L worth of oil, rectified that and miraculously it stopped billowing smoke. Heat is minimal when at idle, possibly a screwed heater core, the heat comes on nice while cruising though. It has a tendency to overboost in 4th, spike to 21+ psi, all other gears spikes about 15-17 and holds. I wouldn't be surprised if the pass side turbo grenades within the next 1k km, it doesn't kind of whistle, it whistles
I may appear to be nice, but don't be fooled, I probably don't like you
Pics, taken today, moments after my wife drove it into the rock wall in front of the neighbor's house, ripping off a piece of the front bump, scarring the wheel and possibly damaging the intercooler. No super happy right now, I was going to get a new bumper for it, but now my time line has been pushed up. Not really what I need as I am trying to put the finishing touches on my single turbo build for the A6. Second pic is my 3 1/2yr old with my Bullseye turbo
Quick update, Last weekend $4 worth of synthetic grease for the propshaft CV's, after a bath in gasoline to remove the clay that was filling them, got the car rolling without the vibrations.
Then I found out that the reason it didn't like to boost consistently was a torn wastegate line on the passenger side, pulled the front off the car today, then the alternator, then the starter, then the motor mount, the the mount ear..........
Anyways, accessed the torn line and repaired it, both wastegates actuate as they should. Added a little Lucas Oil additive to help with the smoke screen it puts up. Took it for a spirited drive, it boosts and holds at 17 using the N75, got the oil good and hot, not smoking like a cheap hooker anymore.
So far I have spent less than $250 on the car, including a new windshield, car could easily be used as a daily, just needs some cosmetic attention now.
I may appear to be nice, but don't be fooled, I probably don't like you
